Mano y mano ... Pet spider battles

My distant cousins whom I visited last year showed me that there indeed was a sport of spider combats in their place.

Adults even place bets when such fights occurs. The fight is won when one spider is captured by the webbings of the other or one of them runs away and refuses to fight. The winner is then taken back to a huge matchstick box where it will be stored and fed.

This is an alternative sport for people in rural areas with low incomes. Most well to do people here go to the cockpit areas during Sundays to gamble.

Just imagine, people finding spiders, keeping them as pets so that they may ultimately ne used as combatants to earn money and honor from their peers.

I could not help but wonder on the inventiveness of the citizens of this place. I don't have no sympathies for the spiders since I for one am terribly scared of them no matter what the size, color and form they have.

Nevertheless, spiders have a role to play in the environment. They tend to catch flies, mosquitos and other insects to have a check and balance on the population of these flies and many others. To me a dead spider is a good spider.
Birds are good house pets inspite of droppings

My uncle hesitated and then relented when he got reassured that a way was found to minimize the odor of bird droppings in their cages.

He was not against keeping birds in a large birdcage at the veranda. He loved birds too. It is just he was concerned that his daughter and me were asthmatic persons. That means we may have asthma attacks if feathers or odors from bird droppings were not properly addressed.

A friend of mine showed my uncle his system of addressing such issues. He brought my uncle to his place and showed him his setup. The set-up consisted of a large sheet of metalsheet shaped according to the base shape of the birdcage. The height of the metallic basic was 3 inches and there were two sections. Each one was half-filled with water that had soap mixed and there were some wire screens covering so that birds wont drink from it.

We are so gracious and happy to be able to hear birds chirping on a daily basis and the birds' activity are fun to watch.

Do you have any interesting bird pets?

Pet Snakes ? A method of fear

Imagine yourself to be a young frail, wiry kid on a new school. How would you prevent the school bullies from hounding you and making fun of you?

Adjusting to a new environment is a hard task. Hoping to get new friends, studying for new courses and having new routines are usually the pressures that make a young tom, dick and harry become a loner and thus resort to snakes as their companions in school and in the house.

How could one not be afraid of snakes and yet have one for a pet ? Its the coolness factor. If you get one that is not poisonous and certified from a pet shop to be safe, you can have lots of fun from a pet snake. It is very easy to maintain. Just make sure you have a very good container for it so that it will not run loose in the school.

A snake is a snake. By that i mean to point out it can definite frighten any bully who intend to make fun of you.

Care to share any interesting snake incidents with me ?

Do you teach your dog the attack command ?

I have a four year old German shepherd ... he has sired 5 puppies - 2 females and 3 males. I have raised him since he was two weeks old.

His name is C.G. . He was initially trained for discipline by Mr. Mike Stone . After only fifteen minutes, Mike Stone was already successful in teaching him 4 basic commands ... he was like seven months old then.

I took over his training using some articles from the internet. He has learned toilet training, barking only when necessary, all the basic commands like heel, stay, roll, jump, fetch , stand, sit and many more.

He really has a mild temperament ... the only time he was aggressive was when he was with his female baby pup for three months.

He is socialable to other dogs. He only defends himself by that i mean he does not initate any dog fight. He knows he just have to ignore other snarling dogs but just keep is distance.

Since he is a guard dog at night, he prowls the grounds of the house, do you think it will be wise to teach him the attack command. so that in case of a prowler he can subdue that person. He know the bite command but he applies that to objects that you point to him to bite.

He loves to run a lot, catch flying disk, tennis ball or stick and swim for thrown items on a beach.

He does not mind being pinched by babies, or kids ... in fact he has a high pain threshold level. He weighs in at 110-115 pounds . Just average weight since he runs a lot.

would you say that there is a disadvantage in teaching a dog the attack command ?
