Prevent Your Dog from Jumping on You
You know how annoying it can be when your dog keeps jumping on you. Now he is probably excited to see you, but you know that if he does that to other people you will probably be yelling at him to get down. So you want to try to prevent him from jumping on you first before you can even think about starting with strangers. Some steps that I have taken to prevent my dog from jumping on me is leash to pull him off of me when he jumps up, using a knee in his chest very gently to show him that he is not supposed to jump up, and pushing him down with my hands.
Now the first step might seem a little difficult to use because having a leash on your dog is kind of hard when trying to stop him from jumping up on you. However, I managed to do this by having the leash connected around the back of his neck the nap area where I would be able to pull it without hurting my dog. Now granted I would have to pull the leash some away from me, so you will want to try to grab onto the leash a little bit lower than the handle unless you have six foot arms! This method worked really well because as anyone can tell you where the head and neck go the body is sure to follow.
The next method that I utilized was gently raising my knee towards him. This worked well in deflecting him away from me if he was not already on me, but if he was it worked well as well. Now please note you want to do this slowly so your dog will not get hurt. You will also want to utilize this method because it will help create distance between the main portion of your dogs body and his front legs. Now typically if your dog is anything like mine his balance is not that great on his rear legs as a puppy so he will quickly get down.
The third method that I use most often when he does jump up on me is using my hands to brush him away. Now you can do this method with some dogs that are smaller or not very stubborn however some large breeds that are stubborn might require more than just your hands. I know that brushing them away though will also allow you to grab the front feet and gently place them on the floor so it is a little less shock on your dogs body as well.
Using these methods that I listed above are all ways that I managed to break my dog from jumping on people. Thankfully I managed that because my English Mastiff is already close to two hundred pounds and just turned one year old. So he will be very large and having him jump on you would knock you to the floor. Hopefully your dog to will learn not to jump on you as well.
